Third Grade is an exciting year for children! They grow so much both socially and academically. It is very rewarding to steer them through this transitional year. This is the first year where students receive actual letter grades. Therefore, we work really hard to help them remain organized and complete assignments carefully. As the year progresses, our third graders become more and more independent, thus preparing them for the rigorous years ahead.
As with our other grades, 3rd grade teachers follow the Common Core State Standards for our academic areas of Language Arts and Math. Our Religion curriculum is mandated by the Archdiocese of Detroit, and our Social Studies and Science curriculums are derived from the State of Michigan GLCEs.
In addition to classroom learning, third graders also attend the following “specials” classes: Art, Music, Gym, Computers, Library and Spanish again this year. Third Grade field trips include the Detroit Historical Society and Greenfield Village.
